New Season

My babies back in Malaysia. Doesn't seem like I will be getting them in May (planned to head back) since Coronavirus is spreading.

Mama Pluto.

Sister can't remember if this was Gloriosum or Pastazanum.

Monstera Variegata grew another aerial root and I decided it was time to transplant it, I also covered the aerial root so it can grow more roots.

Bought a Pinguicula (labeled as Tina but after a Google check, it doesn't look like it). 

Finally Pluto is growing properly, kind of, although not as tight as the mother plant.

Philodendron Pedatum grew shoots so I transplanted them into Seramis.

The cactus ferns were transplanted to. The mother plant of Cactusleaf fern isn't doing particularly well, it emitted some rotting smell so I pulled it out of the soil, washed its roots and put it into a jar of water. 

Garlic chives and green onions.

My mixed salad seedlings are awfully leggy.

I transplanted garlic seedlings into soil and seems a couple aren't doing too well.

Look What You Made Me Do

I really wonder if the maidenhair fern (Adiantum sp. - Peruvianum???) really died this time cos putting in sphagnum moss did nothing. As a lsat resort, I'm putting her in Seramis clay granules with very diluted nutrient water (Seramis vitalnahrung) in a makeshift pots with the plastic food bowl.  I figured I won't dry her out this way this time. I'm very reluctant to buy a new one here because I only see the very tiny-leafed. What we have in Malaysia are of the size that I prefer.

While potting I did notice a tiny clump of healthier(?) roots.

I thought I was going to lose P. Hastatum (Helena) as her leaves are turning yellow since last week and few days ago, they dropped but a new leaf unfurled. Today I noticed two new root nodes.

I snapped one of the juvenile leaves of P. squamiferum (Squami) when I watered her. Sigh.

Meanwhile, I have a new yellow Crocus flowering. I should get some fence for these. 

A couple of tulips are pushing out their flower buds too.

I didn't plant anything on this part of the yard and it appeared some bulb plants are growing.

Tweaking and Propagate

The maidernhair fern is so drama with her soil that I decided to change it to sphagnum moss instead. Hope she will behave better with a more stable medium.

So I propagated cactus leaf fern in two different methods and water propagation works faster. A root has formed so I removed the one with soil propagation and stick it into the water.

What a wrong time to buy Stephania Erecta! I've read that water propagation (from two people anyway) works well so I stuck one in LECA . Let's hope I don't kill it.

New Continent, New Address

I have been away for too long and I have a couple of good reasons for that - I've become a mother to a boy and we've moved to Europe. That's right. 

I had to say to goodbye to a lot of my plants. Some I gave to my parents to care and I did fly here with four precious (and rare) ones - Huperzia, Maidenhair fern, Ridleyii which died after a week and birdnest fern.

I've also got myself back the Plumerias and Kaffir Lime plant that I gifted to a friend in Austria for he has passed away and the house was sold. MIL brought them back for me. These two I have to move them around to get sun. The kaffir lime was doing exceptionally well I must say - she was flowering so much but now that she's not getting as much sun, not many blooms turned fruit. 

Here and There, A Little Bit More

With new development in our lives and heavy travelling, the yard was quite forsaken. The Plot to Happiness is being put on hold on as mentioned in previous post and one of the fence post gone kaputt so Odyssey had access to it although she's just walking around, no harm done.

Here's a little update to what's going on. 

 The egg magnolia has been flowering a few times, I think this is the third one. It looked so cute.

My poor maidenhair fern almost died twice but it bounced back. 

 The red magnolia sprouted new branch and the leaves are so much bigger! I'm very happy that's she's happy.

One of the plants I acquired from Austria in April was Korean mint. It's not doing as well as I thought it'd be. Also, the two mints that I had kinda died too.

Got bay leaf plant from Austria too. Doing better than I've expected in humid climate.

 Lastly, I attempted to grow Alpine strawberries again and this time worked. I could see new runners growing and it is growing a fruit too.

My hydrangeas are doing alright except for the gardener kept trimming when he cut my grass. So annoying!

Darling Just Dive Right in and Follow My Lead

I have finally secured myself a red magnolia. I hope to have a better luck this time. It did seem to have a good start as after I stripped all the leaves, the bud began leafing again after a day.

Honey Dijon is very quickly becoming my favourite rose. She also has a faint pleasing scent.

The maidenhair fern that I almost lost flourished again.

Cotton bud. How cute is that?! I have not repotted them so the cotton plants are very leggy but they are forming buds.

My sunflower patch that never materialise. Will be clearing the area soon. 

The Kauka Wilder tree has been pretty happy I suppose as she is flowering massively.

The phantom bougainvillea near the veg patch finally bloomed. It's a pretty orange-hued one.

Now let's talk about the Plot to Happiness. I've totally neglected it as I was very occupied with my wedding preparation and then at the same time, there's a bun in the oven. I'm in my 15th week this week and finally started to feel like a human again. So I cleared the forsaken patch, and covered with the weed-blocker. I think I will take a break for now.

I harvested the white radish a couple of weeks ago but they are still in the fridge.

Yesterday I harvested the carrots. Many of fellow gardeners in my FB group were impressed by the size of them as it is known that carrots grown in (lowland) Malaysia are tiny and thin. I believed that they could have been bigger as I stopped caring for them since November.

They are our dinner tonight. Not only they smelled so good when I pulled them out, they tasted amazing raw.

 As I was clearing the patch, I pulled out many tiny sweet potato tubers. What the heck, I really thought it was a failure as I pulled most of them out in December and all I got was 2 alright-sized tubers.

Quite motivated by how well my carrots did, I sowed some again in the same pots and moved them to the front instead. At the same time when I was rummaging through my seeds that I kept in the fridge. I felt a surge to plant things again but I do doubt that I won't have the time to care for it so maybe I will just use the planters I have to plant some greens.

Seedless guava sapling from my sister's boyfriend's family tree has grown a flower bud. Truth be told, I've been eating a lot of guava lately.
