Added spearmint (the bigger leaved) into my mint pot. I grew up eating spearmint - grandma's spearmint in egg drop soup is absolutely fantastic. The other two mints are unknown variety.

 The new Amaryllis is a multi-petal and is in a gorgeous coral shade. It's heavy that I had to change the pot and has a stick to support. I like this one better as it doesn't have pollen like the other one. 

Fortified and A Little Crack On on the Gemüsegarten

I'm officially on leave for holiday today and we have a late noon flight out so I'm spending the first half of the day doing a bit of gardening. I noticed that there are small flies flying around the gemüsegarten after the last round of fertilizing - it's either the vermicompost or the coffee ground that attracted them. Or both. Heh.

Kaffir lime seedlings and basil seeds, still not germinated yet.

I transferred the larger kaffir lime seedlings to the newspaper pots so I can give them to FTS. It seems one of the seeds grew another seedling so now I have 8.

Some unknown seedlings growing from the carrot seedling pots - I wonder if they were poppies because I reused the pots when poppy seeds didn't germinated.

Yippee. Two more lavender seedlings! They germinated quicker this time as I moved them to a different place. I also moved the bigger seedlings to the plumeria area for more sun exposure.

The kaffir lime seedlings growing nicely. I also planted some shallots from the kitchen that had shoots growing.

 Amped up my self-watering game. Hydrangea itself has 4. The rest has one each.

Weekend Task

Saturday morning saw me visiting my usual nurseries at Tropicana to get more soil. Dropped by at the first nursery, Kohortica to say hi to the friendly staff. They are well-stocked with roses and beautiful red lilies this time that it is such a shame I have just a balcony! Katsura has the best gardening soil by Gafri and it is so cheap - a pack of 28 litre for MYR10. I got myself 3 packs of them and 2 Baba Planters with the wrought iron window planter box.

Finally planted 3 of the chitted potatoes - 2 in a plastic woven sack I found at work and 1 in the gardening soil bag. 

An update on the seedlings - Arugula has sprouted. The rest are growing but I kind of worry about the kohlrabi - they haven't sprout so I put new seeds into the pots again today.

Under and Over

Ha. My BF believes I fuss too much over the plants, I think so too.

Anyway, things are looking pretty good so far. I did not repot my acclimatized hydrangea, I will leave it as is for now as it's doing good on its own with new leaves growing beautifully. I repotted the Cameron hydrangea instead. The roots have grown out of the pot through the drain holes so I had to cut them off to remove it from the pot, now I have to prepare myself that some part of the plant will die. Here is how it looks like right now.

The amount of root I had to sacrifice. Sad.

I bought all my bio-degradable pots (except a ceramic pot for fiddleleaf fig) from Baba, but I sprayed paint as I wanted white. Little did I know they actually have white ones for sale! I also used their lazy soil, pre-mixed soil. However the mix is pretty inconsistent, I bought two packets and one had little small reddish stones while another a lot of huge reddish stone with balled-up brownish fibres. Sorry I still don't know about the soil terms.

Meanwhile the fiddle leaf fig loves its place next to our living room window, new leaves are growing at a rapid rate. My plumeria is doing ok too. The tip of the branch looks green and flowers are still blooming. This one is a huge test for me.
I'm still playing with the idea of getting either water lily or lotus. Oh just in case you don't know what is the difference between these two plants, here's a visual.

Nelumbo is lotus, nymphaea is water lily.

I bought a bunch of Aster today from my florist and yielded these:

I didn't waste much. The green ones are the buds with shorter stems. I also propagated the stems using root hormone, not really putting much hope as aster prefer cool western summers but yeah.

That planter was meant for the BF to plant some tomatoes but he hasn't started to doing anything yet I'll use for now.
