Productive

Not me, but the plants.
Edamames have start to produce with just 5 inches tall.

So is the red okra. At 3 inches, they are already growing pods. I would actually rather have them grown taller and stronger before that!

Mulberry, of course, have been prolific producers although we never get to enjoy. Birds and other animals (fruit bat, squirrels?) got to them first.

My snow pea are climbing up the fence.

Mexican giant sunflowers are growing.

Japanese sweet potatoes also start taking firm ground.

A few of the bokchoys are attacked by slugs already.

Kailans are slower than bokchoy.

Hello carrots.

My ornamental and edible seedlings.

I've also managed to germinate some borlotti seeds that I dried. Didn't really expect them to germinate.

Gorgeous Ylang-ylang that permeates slight fragrance when I touch them.

Seed Saving and Sowing

I'm attempting to save seeds for snow peas and borlotti beans. Let's hope it works.

Another grand project of mine is to grow sunflower on the tiny slope facing the kitchen window. It's so uninspiring, sad and full of weeds. I've sowed about 75 seeds of Mexican Giant and American Giant. Let's hope for the best.

American giants. I bought the seeds quite cheaply via Carousell.

Mexican giants. These were sowed almost a week earlier.

Happy to see most of the seeds have germinated.

Things are going pretty ok for the veggie except there are a lot of weed seedlings especially caladium seedling. Annoying. The plants are growing at different stages but doing ok. I'm quite disappointed with my edamame seed germination skills. I bought 20 seeds and only 9 seeds survived.

My house is infested with these caladiums! Another variety is the green-leafed and they are lot on my veggie plot so I'm trying to sell them off.

Since I'm home most of the time, I'm earning extra income by offering boarding service for dogs. This is the pack (2 goldens, 2 pugs, 1 shih tzu and 1 Maltese) for the weekend.

More and a Little More

I've bought more seeds - sown today: cabbage, red flower french bean, Italian parsley, calendula, dahlia, sunflower, strawflower and some kailan to replace the seedlings that didn't survive heavy rain recently.

Two of the edamame plants have started to flower which I feel too quick as they are just about 20cm.

Chinese kale aka kailan.

Bokchoy.

Two of my snow pea seedlings were accidentally cut by the gardener. One doesn't look like it will survive.

Four Japanese sweet potato and 5 red okra seedlings.

So I saw rainlily is being sold at RM25 on FB and few weeks back I found them at the edge of the drain on the main street so I gathered them and planted them few days ago. Didn't expect them to bloom so quickly.

The previous tenant planted heliconia at the fence and they don't look good. They also started to grow outside the border. Look at this rogue one.

I also bought a pot of rose this morning when I went to purchased the reserved seeds.

The sole survivor of my first sunflower seedlings. Well, the rest didn't germinate. This is Autumn Beauty.

Cempaka telur aka Magnolia Coco has grown more growth after we moved here.

Japanese rose, or actually accurately Mexican rose thriving at this sandy area despite being trampled by the dogs.

The jackfruit has fruited. Initial count is 20 fruits. This one has been dressed with a t-shirt to be protected from elements and pests.

The major pruning I did on mulberry bushes paid off. They are heavily fruiting now.

This poor fake dill went berserk after being pelted by heavy rain so I cut them off so they can grow again.

Reinforced

So I had to reinforce the fence for Odyssey was able to go over it. At the same time, I have transplanted sweet potato, red okra, kailan and bokchoy seedlings into the ground. Will be transplanting broccoli seedlings too when they are ready.
Marigold, red bowl lettuce, kohlrabi and raab rapini did not germinated. While only one sunflower and 4 carrots germinated. Sad as heck.
I lined the plot with cement bricks so I know where to step.

Also bought a drainer cleaner to clear the soil from the drains.

It is really awesome to see the oakleaf fern is growing. However the indoor ones are quite dormant.

Surprise. I have garlic vines growing among Bauhinia. Actually, I was thinking to purchase garlic vine when I saw them on the FB group. It does have faint scent of garlic.

Sidetracked

It's an exceptional long weekend (Bank holidays from Thursday to Monday) and I was sidetracked by hosting 3 dogs via petsodia.com.

This tiny one had to be separated from time to time. She's being harrassed by the bigger dogs.

Odyssey has been trampling all over my plot, in fact, has killed a snow pea and an edamame seedling so it's high time I put the fence up.

I repurposed the rambutan branches we pruned last month and bought some garden mesh, nails, hinges and cable ties.

This cute fairy gate, although it's a little flimsy. I couldn't fix the hinges in the position I wanted as the branch isn't smooth. I avoid cutting too much to preserve the naturalness of the wood.

Temporary latch, or maybe I will just leave it as it is for I aim to spend the least. I will also set the fence up for the herb garden soon. Total spent for both fences is RM128. Not too bad.

My poor edamame seedling. Stupid Ody.
